Depression

According to the World Health Organisation, depression will soon be the most common health issue in the world, next to cardiovascular disorders and cancer.  It is estimated that 1 in 4 adults in the UK will experience depression at some stage.

Signs of Depression

  • loss of interest or enjoyment  in daily activities
  • a feeling of detachment or separation
  • fear of impending doom
  • loss of appetite and weight loss
  • fatigue
  • sleep issues
  • restlessness
  • feeling of low self-esteem
  • excessive feelings of guilt
  • difficulty in concentration and focus

Take away Tip

During my dialectical behaviour therapy training I learnt about the half-smile.  A small smile, with the corners of the mouth slightly turned up, will send a message to the brain that all is well.
