What happens during a hypnotherapy session?

For most of my clients, their only experience of hypnosis is what they have seen on TV; stage hypnosis, intended for entertainment, is a very skilled form of hypnosis, but it doesn’t represent the experience of clinical hypnotherapy. Stage hypnosis uses willing volunteers, who are taken to a deep state of hypnosis, known as a rapid induction, and encouraged to perform comic acts.

Solution-focused clinical hypnotherapy is about deep relaxation, and guiding the client to recognise their inner resources, strengths and abilities to overcome issues.   You will be invited to lean back, make yourself comfortable. and close your eyes.  We start with an induction, usually a progressive muscle relaxation, before deepening the relaxation with guided imagery such as a beach scene.  When you are in a state of deep relaxation I will address issues.  You won’t be told to start/stop doing anything and you won’t even be told when to open your eyes – you will be invited to do so when you are ready. I include a metaphor story (the subconscious mind loves working with metaphors) which is tailored to you, and which relates to the issue.  You will then be gently invited to open your eyes and return to the room.

I work at a high level and, although you will be very relaxed, you will be aware of everything around you.  You can stop the session at any time and you will not do anything you don’t want to do.

Before the actual hypnotherapy I start by inviting you to share what has been positive during the previous few days; I am looking to engage positivity and activate a specific part of the brain.  While a positive .part of the brain is activated I then invite my client to have hypnotherapy
