OCD

Many of us have times when we are super-focused on checking things, or being organised.  But OCD is more than a personality trait, where we may describe ourselves as “a bit OCD” about specific things.

The NHS defines OCD as “a mental health condition where a person has obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours“.  It can be incredibly distressing, and can have a major impact on daily activities.

It can affect adults and children, often becoming noticeable in early childhood.

  • Obsessions (thoughts) may be distressing, unwanted and persistant.  There may be a fear of infection or intrusive thoughts
  • Compulsions (actions) may include repetitive behaviours such as excessive checking, counting or washing hands

My solution-focused hypnotherapy approach can help with calming the limbic system and helping to reduce the accompanying anxiety.

Takeaway Tip

Journalling repetitive thoughts can help to reduce their emotional intensity, which can reduce anxiety and stress
