Anger

We all get angry occasionally – it’s a fact of life.  It can be triggered by lack of sleep, stress and irritation, and is a response to feelings of unhappiness or irritation. Anger is a primal instinct which stems from the subconscious mind, and can manifest as tension, hostility, shouting or yelling.

Types of Anger

  • Aggressive anger – we can engage in aggressive anger as a reaction to threat.  Aggressive anger is a type of primal instinct.
  • Defensive anger – this occurs when our fight or flight amygdala response  is triggered – our hypothalamus releases adrenaline into the bloodstream, enabling us to fight off a perceived attacker
  • Outraged anger – this is a reaction to feeling outraged about something within our society, such as rules being broken.  When social media exaggerates articles this can trigger moral outrage
  • Frustrated anger – when things don’t go how we want or expect we can quickly become frustrated or angry, and we can end up venting our anger on people around us

Solution-focused Hypnotherapy can help by working with anger by using relaxation techniques and reframing negative reactions.  We work with positivity to develop more rational ways of thinking and reacting.
